Sow into warm soil
Zinnias hate cold, wet ground. Wait for soil above 70°F and sow a quarter inch deep, directly where they'll grow.
Pinch at 12 inches
Snip out the center bud when plants are about a foot tall. You lose one flower and gain a dozen longer stems.
Water at the roots
Overhead watering invites powdery mildew late in the season. Water the soil and give plants room to breathe.
